The dropout rate was lower compared to other studies which reported 32.5%. The majority of students (80%) were female, with an average age of 37.82 years. They held a variety of positions, such as administrative assistant and hemotherapy technician. The difference in the age of the students compared to the literature is due to the profile of the beneficiaries, who were already employed and looking for a career transition (1).
In 2019, the A.C. Camargo Cancer Center Technical School made a total of 40 full scholarships available to the institution's employees. Of these, 31 (77.5%) passed all subjects and completed the training process; 6 (15%) failed, as they had an average grade below 7; and 3 (7.5%) students dropped out. The number of dropouts in the current study is much lower compared to other studies, in which the dropout/withdrawal rate from the same course reached 32.5%.(2)
Conclusões
The lower dropout rate observed among scholarship recipients indicates success in the scholarship program. The more advanced age profile reflects the unique characteristic of the program, which caters for employees already working at the institution. The analysis confirms the trend towards a greater female presence and reveals the importance of supporting vulnerable professionals in their training and development.
