Título

Efficiency of Integrative and Complementary Health Practices for Cancer Patients

Introdução

The growing adherence to integrative and complementary health practices reflects the search for integrative approaches in cancer treatment. These practices, which include therapies such as acupuncture, yoga, andmeditation, aim to improve the quality of life and well-being of patients. Despite evidence, the effectiveness of these interventions requires systematic evaluation. This study reviews the literature seeking to understand their impact of these practices on cancer treatment.

Objetivo

To evaluate the efficiency of integrative and complementary health practices for cancer patients, identifying their effects on quality of life, symptoms, and general well-being.

Métodos

A systematic review was conducted following the PRISMA guidelines. The PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases were consulted for studies published between 2010 and 2023. The inclusion criteria included articles that analyzed integrative and complementary health practices for cancer patients, focusing on qualitative and quantitative results. Search terms included "complementary practices," "oncology," "quality of life," and "interactive interventions." The selection of studies was carried out in two stages: screening of titles and abstracts followed by the complete reading of the articles. Data were extracted and organized into thematic categories, and the quality of the studies was assessed using the PRISMA tool.

Resultados

The analysis included 40 studies, with emphasis on acupuncture, yoga and relaxation techniques. Most studies have reported significant improvements in quality of life, reduced pain, and decreased anxiety and depression among patients. Interventions that promoted active patient engagement showed more positive outcomes. However, some limitations were identified, such as the heterogeneity of the methods and the lack of control groups in several studies. Increased acceptance of complementary practices was noted, especially when integrated into conventional treatment. inte

Conclusões

Integrative and complementary health practices have shown potential to improve the quality of life and well-being of cancer patients. The implementation of these interventions should be considered as part of a comprehensive approach to cancer treatment. However, more rigorous research is needed to consolidate evidence and standardize practices. The integration of complementary therapies into cancer care can represent a significant advance in patient care, promoting a more holistic treatment.
