David  has held the position of Honorary Consultant in Dental Public Health with NHS National Services Scotland Information Services Division where he is the dental clinical/public health lead and research strategy lead. And from 2020 this Honorary Consultant role is within Public Health Scotland. Director of Dental Research, and Lead of the Community Oral Health Research Group in the Dental School. He is also the Oral & Dental Clinical Research Specialty Group co-lead for NHS Research Scotland and the Chief Scientist Office.
